The Hijri New Year:
Embodying the Spirit of Hope and Charity
Our Prophet SAW embarked on a journey filled with hope, pursuing a better life through his physical migration from Makkah to Madinah. As we usher in Muharram and the start of a new Hijri year, let us emulate this journey by migrating towards selflessness. Give children in need the precious gift of hope, allowing them a fresh start in this sacred season. Dive into the essence of Muharram and let it inspire you to act.
Watch this video by Ustaz Yasser where he shares the depth of Muharram's significance and how we can help underprivileged children in our community.
It is in a sacred month
“The year is twelve months of which four are sacred, the three consecutive months of Dhul-Qa’dah, Dhul-Hijjah and Muharram, and Rajab Mudar which comes between Jumadah and Sha’ban.” (Sahih Al Bukhari)
Prophet Nuh’s Ark came to rest on Mount Judi on this day
In a narration reported by Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him), it was on this day that the Ark of Nuh (peace be upon him) came to rest on Mount Judi. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Fasting on this day used to be obligatory
Aisha (ra) narrates in a hadith: “Allah’s messenger ordered (the Muslims) to fast on the day of ‘Ashura, and when fasting in the month of Ramadan was prescribed, it became optional for one to fast on that day (Ashura) or not." (Sahih Al Bukhari)
It is the best fast after Ramadhan
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The best of fasting after Ramadhan is fasting Allah’s month of Muharram.” (Sahih Muslim)
The Prophet prioritised it
Ibn ‘Abbas (ra) said, “I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so keen to fast any day and give it priority over any other than this day, the day of ‘Ashura’, and this month, meaning Ramadhan.”
(Sahih Al Bukhari)
A means of expiating sins
The Prophet ﷺ said, “Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashura I hope Allah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.” (Sahih Muslim)
Past Asyura Campaigns
For the past four years, our Asyura campaign has consistently aimed to inspire joy and bring comfort to orphans and vulnerable children lacking a paternal presence in their lives. Through the dedication of our staff and volunteers, we've been able to reach hundreds of children with our heartfelt gestures of support.
In 2022, our efforts brought smiles to 350 children. We presented them with gift bags valued at $150 each, containing essentials, educational tools, and a few delightful treats to brighten their days.
The previous year, in 2021, our campaign was able to support 337 deserving children. Each child received a gift hamper worth $140, packed with books, vouchers, and other thoughtful items. As we step into this Asyura, we aspire to carry forward this tradition of giving, fostering a sense of community and instilling hope in young hearts once again.
