MTFA Bursary

MTFA awards bursaries using the Zakat funds collected for the Hijrah year. The aim of these awards is to provide financial assistance for Muslim students from low-income families who are pursuing tertiary education.

 

In 2020, MTFA awarded a total of $433,000 worth of bursaries to 394 students.

MTFA Founders' Scholarship

The MTFA Founders’ Scholarship Fund was set up in honour of the founders of MTFA to motivate students of high intellectual capacity, strong personal drive and leadership qualities to take the lead in serving the needs of the Muslim community.  

 

In 2020, MTFA awarded $80,000 worth of Scholarships to 22 students.

Bursary

Am I eligible for MTFA Bursary?


You are eligible for MTFA Bursary if you are: 1. A Muslim Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident 2. A full time tertiary student in any of the following institutions:

  • Institute of Technical Education (ITE)
  • Polytechnic
  • Junior College/Madrasah (Pre-U level)
  • Universities based in Singapore & abroad
3. Your family’s Per Capita Income (PCI) does not exceed $400 and total household income doesn’t not exceed $4,000. Total household income includes income of all family members living in the same house as the applicant. PCI is calculated by taking the total household income and dividing by the number of people living in the house. - Students who are graduating in 2021 are not eligible to apply. - Not applicable for Primary and Secondary Students.




What are the required documents?


You are required to submit your: 1. Identification documents (of all household members) 2. Educational certificates (including CCA records) 3. Income declaration form (for family members who are both employed and unemployed) 4. How do I submit the supporting documents?

- Please note that we will not accept applications with one or more missing documents.

- Also, all forms are to be submitted online. No hardcopy submission is accepted.




When is the application period for 2021?


Application for MTFA Bursary will be opened from 11 May 2021 to 10 Jun 2021. All application outcomes will be made known by the end of September 2021. For successful applications,the award will be disbursed to you via PayNow by October 2021. Kindly ensure that you have a valid Paynow account registered under your NRIC. MTFA will not be responsible for any wrong transactions made due to incorrect details given.




What is the value of the award?


The value of the awards are as follows: - Institute of Technical Education (ITE) - $1,000.00 - Polytechnic - $1,000.00 - Junior College - $1,000.00 - Centralised Institute/Madrasah - $1,000.00 - Universities based in Singapore & abroad - $2,000.00 The bursary is tenable for one year only.




When can I expect to receive the funds if my application is successful?


The bursary will be disbursed to you via PayNow by October 2021.




Is there a bond I need to fulfil?


Bursary recipients are not required to serve any bond. However, they are strongly encouraged to volunteer for any MTFA or Darul Ihsan Orphanage events.





Scholarship

Am I eligible for the Scholarship award?


You are eligible for the Scholarship award if you are: 1. A Muslim Singapore citizen 2. A Full time student in universities based in Singapore or abroad 3. Possess outstanding academic achievements 4. Possess excellent co-curricular activities record 5. Possess strong leadership qualities and potential 6. Have the passion to contribute to Singapore’s Muslim community 7. Your household income does not exceed $4000 per month. Household income includes income of all family members living in the same house as the applicant. - Students who are graduating in 2021 are not eligible to apply. - Applicants who have applied for MTFA Bursary are not eligible to apply for Scholarship.




When is the application period for 2021?


Application for MTFA Founders' Scholarship will be opened from 11 May 2021 to 10 Jun 2021. All application outcomes will be made known by the end of Sept 2021. Applicants are required to complete all relevant sections of the application form with accurate and true information. Any omission of facts will disqualify the applicant. Applicants must submit a personal statement (max 1000 words) indicating why he/she is deserving of the scholarship.




When can I expect to receive the funds if my application is successful?


Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview in July 2021. All applicants will receive a letter indicating the outcome of their application by end of Sept 2021. Successful applicants are required to attend an Award Ceremony in Oct 2021. The date, time and location will be notified in advance.
