The spirit of compassion and community came alive on 27 June 2026 as the Muslimin Trust Fund Association (MTFA) successfully carried out its annual Asyura Gift Bag Distribution, bringing smiles to hundreds of children from vulnerable families and residential homes across Singapore.
A total of 510 gift bags were prepared for the initiative, including a small contingency allocation to ensure every identified child beneficiary could be supported should additional needs arise.
The event was graced by Guest of Honour Ms Mariam Jaafar and Maybank Islamic CEO Mr Sazzali Sabandi, who joined MTFA's leadership for the official flag-off, marking the start of the day's islandwide distribution effort.
Early that morning, MTFA staff and volunteers gathered at the association's premises on Mattar Road to make the final preparations. Gift bags were packed into waiting vehicles, delivery teams were briefed, and after the official flag-off, volunteers set off across Singapore to ensure every bag reached its intended recipients.
The distribution reached Ihsan Aid's beneficiary households as well as child beneficiaries from Casa Raudha, PERTAPIS Children's Home, Muhammadiyah Children's Home, and PERTAPIS Centre for Women & Girls. While some of these organisations support individuals from different age groups, the Asyura Gift Bags were specially prepared for the children under their care.
Each gift bag, valued at approximately S$150, was thoughtfully curated to strike a balance between practicality and celebration. Alongside a selection of snacks and treats generously contributed by Matrix Star, every child received $60 Decathlon vouchers, $60 Popular vouchers and a Swensen's ice cream voucher. Instead of pre-packing fixed school supplies or personal items, the vouchers gave children and their families the flexibility to choose what they needed most, whether it was school shoes, sports equipment, books, stationery or other daily essentials, allowing the support to be tailored to each child's individual needs while still leaving room for a well-deserved treat.
This year's initiative was made possible through the collective support of corporate partners, donors and members of the community. Maybank Islamic and the Rahmatan Lil 'Alamin Foundation (RLAF) were among the organisations that provided financial support towards the programme, while Matrix Star contributed the snacks included in every gift bag. The fundraising campaign was also hosted on Giving.sg, enabling members of the public to contribute towards the initiative.
Above all, the event would not have been possible without the dedication of MTFA's staff and volunteers, whose time, energy and commitment transformed months of planning into a meaningful day of giving. From packing and logistics to delivering each gift bag with care, their collective efforts helped bring encouragement and joy to hundreds of children across Singapore.
The Asyura Gift Bag Distribution continues to reflect MTFA's commitment to uplifting vulnerable children and strengthening the bonds of community. While the contents of each gift bag will eventually be used and enjoyed, the kindness shown by every donor, partner and volunteer leaves an impact that extends far beyond a single day.
MTFA extends its heartfelt appreciation to all our partners, donors and volunteers for making this year's Asyura Gift Bag Distribution possible. Together, we continue to demonstrate that when a community comes together with compassion and generosity, every act of giving has the power to make a lasting difference.
